About: Sloths
Three-toed Sloth
Scientific name: Bradypus
Size: 5-14 lbs, 17-30 in.
Diet: Leaves, buds, twigs, fruit, and occasionally insects and rodents.
Lifespan: 20-30 years
Physical features: Sloths often have thick brown fur with a greenish tinge.
Why?
Why what?
Why is their fur green?
Because sloths move so slowly that moss grows on their fur.
Okay, that's gross. But cool!
They have flat heads, short snouts, and big eyes. They also have markings on their face that makes it look like they are smiling!
Behavior: Sloths are mellow creatures, spending their time mostly in trees. Male sloths are extremely shy.
Ooo, fun fact! Did you know that sloths spend practically their entire lives upside-down!?
Yes, I did, but every time it's amazing!
Habitat: They live in Central and South American rain and cloud forests.
What's a cloud forest?
It's basically a rain forest with low-level clouds.
Oooooh. Now I get it.
Threats: Their natural preditors are jaguars and eagles, but their main threat is humans, be it hunting, deforestation, or humans taking their space.
We need to save endangered animals.
EXTINCT IS FOREVER!
