Special Post: Day Zero
Okay, we know you're used to us talking about animals, but we decided that there are other environmental problems, such as water. A good example is Cape Town, South Africa. On June 4th*, this thriving tourist destination is set to run out of water. Well, sort of.
On Day Zero, each resident's allowance of 13 gallons of water a day will drop to about 6.5 gallons of water. In the US can use up to 80-100 gallons per day. One bath can take about 70 gallons, and one shower, 10.
Other countries in Africa are donating some 2.6 billions gallons of water. Each resident is given a large bottle of water to fill at natural springs. The watchful military is always there. Citizens must take 90-second showers and cut back on washing clothes. Tap water used to clean cars, fill pools, and water gardens is illegal, and there will be penalties if these activities are commenced. However, in January, only 55% of Cape Town citizens stuck to their allowed water amount.
Schools and Hospitals will still get water, and to prevent disease, so will poor settlements. Since tourism fuels 10% of Cape Town's economy, those areas may still get water.
Time is running out for Cape Town.
LIVES ARE AT STAKE!
* This date may change, due to water levels at local dams.
