Fine.
Habitat: They roam the shallow coastal areas of New Zealand.
Threats: One of the major threats to Hector's Dolphins is bycatch. Bycatch is when marine life is caught in fishing nets. When tangled, Hector's Dolphins will hold their breath until released. This often results in suffocation. Other threats include pollution, seabed mining, and coastal development and building. Some natural predators are the Orca and Seven-Gill Shark.

Statistics: The Hector's Dolphin has been classified as 'endangered'. in the 1970's, there were about 27,000. Now, there are only around 7,000 individuals. That's a population drop of about 20,000! This number is rapidly becoming smaller every year.
We need to save endangered animals.
EXTINCT IS FOREVER!

*Note: Hector's Dolphins are extremely special to #kiwikid because they were the animals she did her school report on that inspired her to start this blog with #llamalover. For #llamalover, it was the Ganges River Dolphin (see post).
