Statistics Update: Cacao Tree

   Anybody reading love chocolate?
I know I do!
I wish you would stop interrupting the posts!!!
Fine.
Well, chocolate is at risk. Why? For the answer to that, look all the way back to cacao beans.
Climate change is effecting the weather around the area where cacao trees grow, known as the Cocoa Belt. For ideal growing conditions, it needs to be hot, humid, and rainy. There are less, pods, less beans, and less quality, all because of the wrong weather. And sadly, research shows that in 2050 it will be harder to grow beans in 90% of the places used today.
There are solutions, though. One solution is cross-breeding two kinds of cacao tree. They are also using Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatories to tell when it's a good time to pick and plant. Also, an app called CocoaLink will give farmers tips for growing in that area. It isn't traditional, but we need to save chocolate.
